Last year, we bundled up and took our son to Holiday Nights at ZooMontana, and it was nothing short of magical. The air was crisp, and the glow of millions of twinkling lights danced across the paths as families strolled through the zoo.

Our little guy’s eyes absolutely sparkled as he ran from one glowing display to the next, his laughter echoing between the trees. It was one of those nights that felt like Christmas magic had come to life, and it was the perfect way to let our son burn off pre-bedtime energy while we soaked in the wonder of it all.

New Attractions Bring Even More Holiday Magic to ZooMontana

Organizers are upping the magic this year with several new additions that promise to take the experience to the next level. Visitors will be greeted by a 50-foot digital Christmas tree, a brand-new 41-foot geo dome available for private events, and even more festive characters roaming the grounds to greet families. One of the biggest highlights? A Christmas Drone Show scheduled for December 23rd, lighting up the Billings sky in a synchronized holiday display unlike anything the city has seen before.

A Whimsical Walk Through a Forest of Lights

One of the newest features is the TDS Fiber Forest, a dazzling, immersive walking path that invites families to wander through millions of lights while taking in a special Christmas Movie Experience. There’s also a TDS Fiber Christmas Tent filled with children’s activities, perfect for little ones who can’t resist the spirit of the season. Whether you’re snapping a photo with Santa, toasting S’mores, or simply taking in “The Story of Christmas” light display presented by Faith Chapel, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

When and How to Experience the Magic of Holiday Nights

Holiday Nights runs Thursdays through Sundays from November 28 to December 14, and then nightly from December 18 through December 31, with the lights turning on at 5:00 p.m. and shutting off at 9:00 p.m. The event will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Keep in mind, since this is a winter outdoor experience, the event may close during periods of extreme cold or heavy snow for safety reasons, but on most nights, it’s an unforgettable way to celebrate the season.

What to Know Before You Go to Holiday Nights

Before heading out, plan ahead for the zoo’s security protocols. Bag checks and metal detectors may be in use at the entrance, and visitors are asked not to bring weapons, outside food or beverages, or pets. The zoo is a smoke-free facility, ensuring the night stays family-friendly and comfortable for all guests and the animals, too.
