Biden Approves Disaster Relief for MT Areas Hit by Spring Floods
Remember that wild spring storm earlier this year that stranded 100s of drivers on Bozeman Pass for up to 12 hours when conditions turned icy with heavy snowfall? That same storm dropped up to 10 inches of rain in other parts of Montana, causing flood damage to homes, cropland, and infrastructure.

Federal relief funds are on their way.
FEMA has stepped in to lend a hand to these mostly rural communities of Montana, which faced devastating floods from May 6-9, 2024. The announcement, dated 7/19/24, brings hope to the affected areas, with federal disaster assistance on the way to support recovery efforts.
The aid extends to state, tribal, and eligible local governments, as well as certain private nonprofit organizations. These funds are crucial for emergency work and repair or replacement of facilities that bore the brunt of the flooding.
Ten counties and two reservations are eligible for aid.
The counties of Blaine, Chouteau, Fergus, Hill, Judith Basin, Petroleum, Pondera, Teton, Toole, and Wheatland, along with the Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation and the Fort Belknap Indian Community, are among those set to benefit from this federal relief.
Federal funding is also available to enhance hazard mitigation measures across the state, ensuring Montana is better prepared for future challenges.
Leading the charge in these federal recovery operations is Edwin J. Martin, appointed as the Federal Coordinating Officer. As further assessments are conducted, more designations and aid may be provided.
