Do You Eat Beige Food?
Did you hear this story about the activists who assembled at Kellogg's HQ in Michigan, wanting the color dyes and preservatives removed from their breakfast cereals such as Apple Jacks and Froot Loops? Their concern is of course health risks and behavioral issues in kids. Last year Peeps proclaimed no further use of red dye #3.
Had me thinking. Would kids and adults still eat the cereal if the color was not included? What color would these breakfast favs have? Perhaps the same shade as plain oatmeal.
There's a reason to include brown sugar or blueberries to oatmeal. Thankfully the flavoring is still in the cold cereals(?)
Actually there are Cheerios, which is beige and healthy, and in due time they had to come out with honey nut and multigrain and almost anything for variation. Crispy Rice cereal is beige and the marshmallow treat has been the best invention for them.
Chicken is a good source of protein with lower fat, and I hear actors eat a lot of it grilled to bulk up for superhero movies. I also read one actress swear off chicken when filming was over.
I admit to loving chow mien noodles, on rice and to snack on. Been a novelty since childhood.
We Need Some Color
So let's be honest, we like some color on the plate or in the bowl. And there are very healthy choices.
Mmm, steak... If anyone tells you that the beef industry needs to close, just remind them that color is need on the plate. Chicken and pork are too dull.
Speaking of color, Nutritionists en masse call for bright colors for lunch and dinner, specifically fresh fruits and vegetables.
Now in all fairness to the activists, they suggest natural coloring from fruit juices for breakfast cereals. Ok, but won't that change the taste? Actually, might be a good thing.
And get rid of preservatives? Ok, but get ready for that "Best Used by" date to really shorten. Suddenly it's cereal every day.
