This Sparkly Syrup From Bozeman…Is Actually “Edible”
My inner Elf is coming out, and we have 11 months until Christmas.
Sparkle Syrup?! Yes indeed. This cool food was gifted to me from one our lovely account executives. You may be thinking is glitter syrup actually okay to eat? I tried it, and I’m still alive and kickin’. But then I thought, wait... I need to do some more research before pouring this product all over my waffles.
Edible Glitter
It’s a real thing. The reason why it’s edible is because it’s made with the mineral mica...found in the earth. But can we ingest mica? Per usual- I googled it.
According to Live Science it states,
The FDA says that edible glitters and dust products are required by law to list their ingredients. Such edible ingredients typically include sugar, acacia (gum arabic), maltodextrin, cornstarch, and color additives specifically approved for food use, such as mica-based pearlescent pigments.”
The FDA also warn us consumers to be very careful when reading the labels of edible glitter foods. Another thing we should look out for is the word "edible."
“Most edible glitters and dusts will say "edible" on the label, the FDA says. If a product simply says "non-toxic" and doesn't include an ingredients list, you shouldn't eat it, according to the FDA.
In small doses, I feel it’s fine to add a little pizazz to your food. But definitely do not consume this stuff daily, even weekly. We just don’t know what it does to our body in the long run.
If you want to try the sparkle syrup, you’ll have to trek up to Bozeman.
It’s sold in the mall in a shop called, Olivelle. The syrup is made in the maple syrup state: Vermont.
