Billings' Wet Nose Wednesday featured pet is a real charmer.

Each week we get to fall in love with another great dog from Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter. This week, our featured pet is a fun-loving dog named Lucas.

Lucas is a German Shepherd mix.

When dogs arrive at the shelter as strays, it can sometimes be a challenge to determine their breed. Lucas was picked up by Yellowstone County Animal Control on Billings' far West End and YVAS is calling him a German Shepherd mix. His coloring and shape do share a resemblance to this popular breed.

He's a large, active dog, weighing in at around 75 pounds. He's a bit on the thin side, but with plenty of treats and quality dog food, Lucas shouldn't have any problems putting on a few needed pounds.

This doggo just wants to be your best buddy.

Lucas seems to have endless energy, at least during his 15-minute visit to our studios. He sniffed and explored every corner of our offices, with his tail wagging and his big ol' tongue flapping in the breeze as he greeted all of our staff on the 23rd floor.

Derek Wulf, Humane Outreach Coordinator at YVAS, said Lucas loved riding in the car and enjoys walks on a leash, playtime, treats, and all the attention he can get. Lucas can sit on command, and while he is energetic, he's gentle and enjoys back scratches and cuddle time too.

Can't adopt, but want to help?

Most of us aren't in a position to adopt unlimited pets - as much as we'd like to take them all home - but if you'd like to help the shelter in other ways, you can always donate. End-of-year financial gifts are much appreciated, and currently, the shelter is low on wet cat food.

You can browse all of the animals currently available for adoption at Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter HERE. Thank you, Shipton's Big R for supporting animal adoption in the Billings area.
