Biden Withdraws, Montana Republicans Say He Should Step Down

Joe Biden has officially withdrawn from the 2024 presidential race, and now Montana Republicans like Steve Daines and Tim Sheehy are calling for Biden to step down from the presidency altogether.

If Joe Biden is unfit to serve as the 2024 presidential candidate, then Joe Biden is unfit to serve as President of the United States. That was the point made by Montana's US Senator Steve Daines (R-MT), shortly after the news broke Sunday that Joe Biden was officially withdrawing from the race.

Senator Daines: “If Joe Biden is no longer capable of running for re-election, he is no longer capable of serving as President. Being President is the hardest job in the world, and I no longer have confidence that Joe Biden can effectively execute his duties as Commander-in-Chief. It is out of concern for our country’s national security that I am formally calling on President Biden to resign from office."

Senator Daines also called it "striking" that "none of the Senate Democrats who served with Vice President Harris have called for her to replace President Biden. This leads me to believe they think she is unqualified to serve as Commander-in-Chief.”

Navy SEAL veteran and Montana Republican US Senate candidate Tim Sheehy says, "Montanans will never forget that Jon Tester lied to all of us when he engaged in the Left’s coverup and said Biden is 100% with it. The truth is, Joe Biden must immediately resign as President of the United States – because if you’re not fit to even run for president, you’re not fit to serve as Commander-in-Chief for one day longer."

He added this, in a post on X shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday: "Further, if Jon Tester isn’t endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for President, then does he believe she’s also unfit to serve as president? It’s time to turn the page on this disastrous era of American weakness and bring in a new generation of strong America First leadership to save our country from the Biden-Tester agenda."

Liberal Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) issued a statement thanking Joe Biden for his service to our country, but did not say whether or not he would endorse Kamala Harris as the presidential candidate. The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) says that "Harris is a far-left radical who supports banning fracking, has called to defund ICE, praised cities for slashing police funding, and helped bail out violent rioters arrested during the summer of 2020."

*Update: After this story was originally published, we received this statement from Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte: "There are a lot of questions here, and the American people deserve answers. If Joe Biden is incapable of running for reelection and serving another term, it's a fair question whether he can or should finish out his current term. And as Joe Biden's vice president, Kamala Harris should come clean about why she actively hid Joe Biden's condition from the American people."
