What an incredible deal we have going here in Montana with the not just the Cat-Griz game, but with the Montana State Bobcats and the University of Montana Grizzlies in general.

Think about it- in just the last few years alone the Bobcats went all the way to the national championship. Then, last year the Bobcats looked so strong even a UM grad like myself thought they were gonna run right back to the national championship.

Instead, the Grizzlies came roaring back- surprising fans- and won the big rivalry game at home and went on a run of their own all the way to the national championship. I was at the semifinal game against North Dakota State in Missoula and it was incredible.

This year may be the year that the Bobcats do what we thought they might have done last year- make it all the way to the national championship, and maybe even pull it off.

The Bobcats finished the regular season undefeated in the Big Sky Conference and have now earned the #1 seed in the FCS playoffs.

The Grizzlies, after suffering a big defeat to the Bobcats in Bozeman, made the playoffs but are going to have to battle to make it to Frisco. Their side of the bracket also includes the dominant program of South Dakota State University and North Dakota State University.

Bobcat Coach Brent Vigen was clearly pleased with the #1 seed and the fan support, but made it clear in an interview with MTN Sports that his team understands their work is far from finished.

Coach Vigen: "Well, that's what you're playing for. It's not easy...it's so important. It has been so important over time to be in the one or the two position, it just has. So, you know, it's a measure of your consistency. It's a measure of your team being able to prepare and show up every week. And our team has done that. So I know we're very deserving of it, and now it's a matter of taking that opportunity and running with it. So the work is isn't done yet."
