Laurel Throws One of Montana’s Best 4th of July Celebrations

When it comes to Independence Day parties, few in Montana do it bigger—or better—than Laurel, Montana. With a population just over 7,000, this Yellowstone County town draws thousands of visitors every 4th of July, including plenty of folks who grew up there and make it a point to come home for the holiday weekend.

I'm a Laurel local, and my house will be full for the 4th, with my two stepsons coming home for the celebration. We're planning to attend almost all of the events, including...

The Street Dance Kicks Off the Party

The festivities start early with Laurel’s traditional street dance on July 3rd. Hosted by The Palace Bar and Lanes, this year’s party features live music from local favorites The Repeat Offenders. Things get rolling at 6 p.m. with the opening act, followed by Repeat Offenders at 9. This is an 18+ event with a $15 cover charge at the gate. Expect a big crowd and a fun, rowdy evening downtown.

Here’s What’s Happening on the 4th:

  • Chief Joseph Run – Lace up early! The 8-mile race starts at 6:30 a.m. at Thomson Park. 2 and 4 milers start at 7.
  • Pancake Breakfast – From 6:30 to 10:30 a.m., fuel up with flapjacks at Fireman's Park.
  • Grand Parade – One of the biggest in the state, rolling at 11 a.m. Arrive early to claim your spot along the route and plop down a lawn chair.
  • Food & Craft Fair – Open all day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Live entertainment, food trucks, and activities all day long at Thompson Park.
  • Fireworks at dark – Laurel boasts the largest fireworks display in Montana. It's big, loud, and awesome.
