Miranda Lambert Kept Her Wedding to Brendan McLoughlin a Secret for a Reason: ‘This Is My Actual Life’
Lambert stunned fans and the country music world when she turned to social media in February of 2019 to announce that she had secretly married McLoughlin on Jan. 26, just months after meeting him when her band, Pistol Annies, performed on Good Morning America in November of 2018. Her bandmates, Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley, secretly set her up with McLoughlin, who was working security on the show.
“I was married before, and it was a huge wedding and everything was very public. So was my divorce," she states. “I learned then that it’s not for everybody else. This is my actual life. With Brendan, I made it a point to keep it as private as I could for as long as I could.”
The couple married at a farm outside of Nashville, and while Lambert is still tight-lipped about the details of that day, she tells People that it was so private, she didn't have her bandmates, or anyone else, as bridesmaids.
“I didn’t have nobody. That was mine and his moment," she says.
Their anonymity didn't last long, but the couple are still very selective about what they share with the public, and they've been photographed together in public a limited number of times. Lambert says that although she apologized to McLoughlin about the spotlight that would swing his way because of their marriage, he's dealt with it just fine.
“To pull him into that world, I was like, ‘I’m sorry, this might be a shock,’” she says. McLoughlin had a previous stint as a model, and he fathered a son and had a broken engagement before meeting Lambert, all of which became public shortly after the news of their marriage broke.
“He just takes it like a champ,” Lambert observes. “He’s better at it than I am.”
Lambert says her marriage to McLoughlin has been a big influence on her upcoming album, Wildcard, which is set for release on Friday (Nov. 1). He's currently on a leave of absence from his job with the NYPD, and he's joining her on the road for her Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars Tour 2019. That roadshow resumes on Nov. 7 in Charlottesville, Va., and runs through Nov. 23, when it wraps in Greensboro, N.C. Lambert will launch her 2020 Wildcard Tour on Jan. 16 in Tupelo, Miss.
Miranda Lambert tickets for her upcoming shows are available now.
