Not many of us escaped lottery fever last week as the Mega Millions jackpot skyrocketed to about $640 million. Everyone wanted to get in on the action and we know one firefighter who is very happy his fellow firefighters decided to try their luck.

Usually a best man’s duties are limited to throwing the bachelor party and getting the groom to the ceremony on time. But one British guy went above-and-beyond by donating one of his kidneys to the bride.

Garth Brooks is learning the hard way that no good deed goes unpunished. The Oklahoma native is set to appear in a courtroom in Rogers County today (Jan. 17) to face an aging lawsuit over a donation he made to a local hospital. The long-lingering suit is finally going to trial with jury selection scheduled to take place in the early part of the afternoon.

Carrie Underwood may get to flit around onstage in shimmering gowns and attend swanky awards shows, but this Oklahoma girl who found her start on ‘American Idol‘ is certainly not one to forget her roots. The world-famous singer brought smiles to the faces of school administrators across her hometown of Checotah, Okla. this holiday, as she made donations totaling $350,000.

Oklahoma native Vince Gill recently made a $12,000 donation to the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame to help finish construction on a new children’s music exhibit. Gill was inducted into that Hall of Fame in 1999, and now he’s challenging other musicians and music lovers to follow his lead and donate to the cause.
