Some of Toby Keith‘s ‘bad A’ patriotic songs can make him sound like a tough guy, but the truth is that the country star is always willing to donate time and money to help sick children and other people in need. For his latest act of generosity, the 9th Annual Toby Keith & Friends Golf Classic helped raise $664,000 for OK Kids Korral, a facility that will provide comfortable housing for families of children with cancer.

This year’s golf classic topped the money raised at the 2011 event, bringing the Toby Keith Foundation even closer to their goal of opening the OK Kids Korral facility in Oklahoma. After the classic, officials broke ground on the new building.

Eventually, the OK Kids Korral facility will include a community indoor and outdoor dining area, game room, movie theater, business center and a center for learning about cancer and the available treatments. OK Kids Korral will also house an outdoor play area and garden. In short, Toby Keith and friends are working hard to create a relaxing haven for the families of children who are suffering.

“In my job, you get to go to a lot of places and see a lot of things, but there’s not much in my world that’s more gratifying or important than helping these families,” Toby said in a statement. “Turning dirt on this project is a big moment for me and a lot of other people who’ve been a part of making it happen.”

After the ground breaking, ticket holders to the event were able to attend the dinner and auction. Prizes like an autographed Three Stooges piece, a trip to visit the crew of the Time Bandit from Discovery’s show ‘Deadliest Catch,’ and an autographed Rolling Stones guitar (worth $5,500) were auctioned off to lucky winners.

Of course it takes an army to pull off a golf classic that raises thousands of dollars, but none of that would be possible without the generosity of the country megastar.
