Around 1 p.m. on Wednesday (12/11), the BPD Street Crimes Unit and U.S. Marshals located a man wanted on a felony robbery warrant. That began a nearly four hour standoff, according to a press release.

36-year old Darren Whiteman had an active felony burglary warrant that's related to a November 24, 2019 robbery at the Gas & Go. A 25-year old woman was shot in the arm during that robbery, according to the report.

While surveilling the #43 trailer at 1923 Mullowney Lane, officers noticed subjects coming and going from the location. Upon approaching to make contact, the subjects fled into the trailer. Officers secured the perimeter of the trailer and called out to the occupants of the trailer. While several of the occupants followed officer orders and came out, Whitman did not "comply nor did he respond to or acknowledge officers' commands in any way," according to the press release.

Billings Police SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Team responded, along with the TRT team from the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office. After many attempts to contact and communicate with Whiteman were unsuccessful, tactical operations safely took him into custody around 5 p.m. without any injuries.

Darren Whiteman is in custody at the Yellowstone County Detention Facility. All other subjects were released, and no other arrests were made during the incident, according to the press release.
