Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson Sing ‘Don’t You Wanna Stay’ at Ohio Concert
Last night, Blake Shelton surprised his Toledo, Ohio audience by performing Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson‘s duet ‘Don’t You Wanna Stay,’ and of course he couldn’t do it alone. As heard in the fan video below, Shelton launched into Aldean’s part and left the audience wondering just how he was going to cover the female vocal for the duet.
But they didn’t have to wait long. As soon as the male part faded out, Clarkson came out from backstage and added her harmonies to the first chorus.
“Kelly Clarkson, everybody!” Blake shouted, and then Clarkson took on the second verse as the audience all at once sang along (in their own key) and screamed their approval at the surprise. Late last night after the show, Shelton tweeted his thanks for his impromptu duet partner, saying, “Thank you @kelly_clarkson for singing with me tonight!!!! I. LOVE. YOU!!!!!!!!”
Seeming to have enjoyed the experience herself, Clarkson also hit Twitter last night, saying, “I got to see @blakeshelton show tonight and wow so great!! Y’all have to go see it!! Fun night!!” Clarkson didn’t mention her little cameo in the set, but we’re sure Twitter was blowing up with excited fans spilling the news.
Shelton is continuing on his 2012 Well Lit and Amplified Tour, making a stop in St. Louis tonight before heading out to Nebraska for tomorrow night’s show. Meanwhile, Clarkson will be in Mashantucket, Conn. tonight and making her way to Atlantic City, N.J. for her Sunday show. Shelton and Clarkson may be continuing their collaborative work as Clarkson plans to help Shelton’s team in the upcoming season of ‘The Voice.’
