The top of the country singles charts is familiar territory for Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood — their duet ‘Remind Me,’ currently number one, is his 20th chart-topper, and her 14th.

But even if the song produced predictable results for the duo, it started with a burst of unusual inspiration. As Paisley tells it, the idea for ‘Remind Me’ came from watching the sort of character acting commonly heard in hip-hop.

“We got the idea from this based on — I’m kinda jealous — of the way Kanye West or Eminem … they can take somebody and say, ‘Here’s what I want you to say’ — and they’re a character in the song,” recalls Paisley, who collaborated on the song with co-writers Kelley Lovelace and Chris DuBois. “I don’t think we do enough of that kind of creativity in country music.”

‘Remind Me’ is the third single from Paisley’s latest album, ‘This Is Country Music,’ which has topped Billboard’s country album charts and been certified gold for sales of half a million units since its May release. Paisley and Underwood will reunite in November for their fourth stint as co-hosts of the CMA Awards.
