Carrie Underwood Expands on Acceptance of Gay Marriage in Allure Cover Issue
Carrie Underwood first turned heads with pro-gay marriage remarks last year, suffering a minor backlash from protestors who questioned the singer’s devout Christian lifestyle. In her most recent cover interview for Allure magazine, the ‘Two Black Cadillacs’ singer revisits her previous remarks, calling out those who find it necessary to belittle her based on her personal belief system.
“I’m in favor of acceptance,” Underwood tells the mag of her internal moral compass. “I am a Christian person, and I do love the Lord, and I feel no matter who you are, what you believe, how you live your life, it’s not my place to judge. I don’t have that power.”
Elaborating on her sentiment, Underwood continued, “I don’t want that power. It’s my place to love and to show God’s love to other people, even if they don’t live a life like I live. So that’s where I’m coming from.”
Naturally, Underwood’s own marriage also became a topic of conversation in the interview. When asked if she felt compelled to keep tabs on her husband, pro hockey player Mike Fisher, the songstress fired back with the confidence of a woman who completely trusts her partner.
“We’ve seen a lot of celebrities, professional athletes, not exactly always being on their best behavior away from girlfriends, wives, families,” Underwood shares. “People would say, ‘Do you ever worry that he’s an athlete, he’s young, he’s good-looking?’ And I’ve never had to worry about him because I’ve never trusted anybody so completely … He just wouldn’t do that.”
Providing even more insight on the subject matter, she notes, “We want that person to be everything we’ve always wanted. If they’re not Prince Charming, we try to make them Prince Charming.”
“But Prince Charming does exist!” Underwood assures. “I found one.”
The happily married music superstar is currently on hiatus from her Blown Away headlining tour, which resumes on Feb. 13 in Colorado Springs, Colo. The major concert extravaganza is in support of her latest platinum-selling album of the same name, which feature’s her current Top 10 single, ‘Two Black Cadillacs.’
