As we prepare to celebrate our freedom this weekend, here's another example of our government taking our choices away.

A new law went in to effect yesterday for schools all over the country.  As part of the new National Nutrition Guidelines, schools will no longer be allowed to sell or serve unhealthy treats like cookies, chips, brownies and cake.

Now we'll be the first to admit that their is a problem with childhood obesity in this country. However, as the Flakes have been saying for years, kids who are active need more calories in their diet.  Sure, kids who eat junk food and sit on the couch all day playing video games will become obese.  But kids who play sports and are involved in extra curricular activities need some sugar.

And here's the biggest problem with this new law.  It's one thing to take chips and sweets out of the school vending machines or lunches, but now schools won't be able to conduct any fundraisers involving food that the feds deem "unhealthy".  How many millions of dollars have been raised for school projects and clubs with bake sales?  You think those people are gonna finance the band or the science club field trip with a farmer's market?  Think again.

Mark and Paul are proud to be Americans and we are lucky to live in the greatest country in the history of mankind.  As we celebrate our independence this weekend, take a minute to give thanks for freedom.  Because it's slowly being taken away from us.  One bag of Cheetos at a time.
