Growing up with technology is second nature today, but it comes with plenty of bumps along the way.

A new study has found that half of all American parents say their kids have damaged a cell phone, laptop, tablet or other portable device. That comes out to a whopping $2.8 billion to repair and replace them.

FOOD, NOT SO GLORIOUS FOOD

So, how are the youth of America causing all this trouble? Half of all accidents involve milk, 19% are due to chocolate, while 17% are courtesy of candy and 16% is due to yogurt. And if you have boys, we recommend getting a warranty – they are 35% more likely to cause an accident than girls are.

“DID I DO THAT?”

In addition to causing physical damage, children tend to wreak other kinds of havoc. Thirty-one percent of parents say their offspring have placed accidental calls or texts, while 28% claim their tots bought something without their knowledge. Another 9% say their kids have taken photos they shouldn’t have.

STAYING CONNECTED

Despite the fact children tend to run these gadgets ragged, more than 85% of all kids have their own mobile device and use it an average of 3.2 hours per day. As you may expect, the older the child, the more time they spend. Kids two and under use mobile devices for an hour-and-a-half each day. Children between three and six spend 1.8 hours on them; little ones between seven and 12 use them for three hours and those youngsters between 13 and 17 are on for 4.9 hours daily.
