Kanye West Admits Apology to Taylor Swift After Stage Rush Incident Wasn’t Genuine

Kanye West has made one thing very clear: his apology to sweet superstar Taylor Swift regarding the now-famous 2009 VMAs incident was not genuine — and he’s taking it back.

In an unforgettable display of ego, West rushed onstage at the awards show nearly four years ago to interrupt Swift when she won Best Female Video for ‘You Belong With Me.’ During her acceptance speech, the rapper grabbed the mic and began shouting into it that his friend, Beyonce, should have won, as she had the greatest video of all time.

If there was a loser at the show that evening, it was West.

In a new interview with the New York Times, West shared that he has no regret for his rude and completely inappropriate action. ”If anyone’s reading this waiting for some type of full-on, flat apology for anything, they should just stop reading right now,” he states.

When reminded that he did initially apologize to then-19-year-old Swift after the incident, West insinuates that he regrets his apology, and that he only did it because he felt pressured.

“I have like, faltered, you know, as a human. My message isn’t perfectly defined,” he explains. “I have, as a human being, fallen to peer pressure.”

Apparently, the rapper felt forced into making amends, and reiterated with a simple “yeah” when asked if “that was a situation in which you gave in to peer pressure to apologize.” Many fans could have guessed that West still harbors a lot of anger — and not remorse — when he threw himself into an onstage rant about Swift at one of his recent concerts.

The 2009 incident, though extremely painful for Swift, is now but a reminder of her journey to the top. Surprisingly, she keeps a framed photo of the stage rush moment in her home. The songstress has dealt with the situation with utmost class and grace, preferring to keep her focus on her career. While West may be stuck in the past, Swift has moved on to bigger and better things.
