A judge is refusing to block new rules that say the meat industry has to include specific information about where products come from on labels. The new rules took effect in May and require labels for meats, steaks, ribs and other cuts of meat include clear information about where the animals were born, raised and yes, even slaughtered.

The American Meat Institute, a trade group that represents meatpackers, processors and suppliers, said they have plans to appeal as the rules are just too costly! Which would most likely cause an increase in food prices!

In this lawsuit, they argue that the rule violates the U.S. Constitution because it forces meat producers to provide information about their products, and the groups argue that officials overstepped their authority with the rules. The labeling rules have support from consumer groups, environmental groups and some farmer’s groups.
