If you've listened to Flakes over the years, you've probably heard Paul complaining about the gas prices in Billings more than a few times.  We've got a refinery here, yet gas consistently costs less in other parts of the state, region and country.  It costs us a lot of dollars, but it doesn't make sense.

To add to Paul's frustration, gasbuddy.com now ranks Montana among the highest gas prices in the country.  Did you know in St. Louis, MO, the average gallon of gas is going for $2.69?  That's 60 cents lower than the average price in Billings, which is currently at $3.29.

And the Midwest isn't the only place where gas is cheaper.  Even coastal tourist towns like Myrtle Beach, SC, and Sarasota, FL, have lower gas prices than we do.  What about the West? The average gallon of gas in Phoenix is 30 cents cheaper than it is in Billings.

In fact, Montana now has the 10th highest average gas price in America, trailing Hawaii, Alaska, California, New York, Oregon, Connecticut, Vermont, Wyoming and Utah.  And, to make matters worse, Billings usually has the highest gas prices anywhere in the state.

So when you're driving home from work this afternoon and you pass the gas station, just remember, we're the ones getting hosed.
