At the tender age of 20, rising country music star Cale Moon is turning a lot of heads in Nashville and a few here in Billings too. Before he performs tomorrow night at the Squire Lounge, Cale dropped by the Cat Country studios to play us one of his new songs and to tell us his story.

Cat Country: When did you start playing music?

Cale Moon: I got my first guitar at age 12.  I really didn't start playing it until I was 15.  I had to write a song for a talent show, so I figured I should probably learn how to play it.  I haven't put it down since.

Cat Country:  Who were your influences growing up?

Cale Moon: Josh Turner is my favorite performer and song writer.  I also grew up loving George Strait, Tracy Lawrence and Allan Jackson.

Cat Country:  For people who've never heard you, how would you describe your sound?

Cale Moon: I walk that fine line between bluegrass and heavy metal.  Just kidding.  My sound is country, through and through.  Although, I do draw a lot of inspiration from different styles of music.

Cat Country: Is it true that your dad is your manager?

Cale Moon: My dad and my mom both travel with me.  They are my managers, my booking agents, my road crew, my drivers and my dad even thinks he's my bodyguard. When I decided that I really wanted to pursue this dream, they sold their house in Washington and we've been on the road ever since.  It's the family business now and I just hope I can repay them for all the sacrifices they've made for me.  My parents have spent more time in bars with their underage son that any other parents in the world.

Cat Country:  Tell us about recording your latest album in Nashville

Cale Moon:  After I made my first record, "The Beginning", we started getting calls from some people in Nashville and we ended up there.  My last album "True Love Waits" was recorded in the oldest studio in Nashville.  It's the same place where Jason Aldean did all his records and so many legends have made music there, like Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers and the list goes on and on.  I got to play with some amazing musicians.  It was an  incredible experience.

Cat Country:  We heard your first concert in Montana was memorable

Cale Moon:  Yeah, you could say that.  I was opening for Rick Springfield at the Fallon County Fair in Baker last weekend.  In the middle of my set, a crazy storm rolled through and everyone went running for cover.  After I got off stage, a pig had escaped from its pen, so I actually put my guitar down, chased after it and ended up catching it.

Cat Country:  So what's next for Cale Moon?

Cale Moon:  Lunch, (laughs) I'm hungry.  Seriously though, I'm going to stay on the road, keep writing songs and chasing my dream.
