Should People Be Allowed to Use Food Stamps for Junk Food?

This morning, the Flakes discussed the new Farm Bill that was recently passed by Congress.  Did you know that 80% of all spending in that bill goes to Food Stamps?

According to the USDA, over 23 million households now receive Food Stamps.  All told, nearly $80 billion was spend on Federal food assistance last year.  Spending has increased a whopping 164% over the past decade.

The Flakes don't want to see children go hungry.  But what about the millions of people who abuse the system?  Should obese people be allowed to buy soda, potato chips, pizza and ice cream with federal aid?

We can't impose a weight limit for food stamps, however Mark and Paul contend that all purchases should be subject to strict nutritional guidelines.  That way, the tax payers won't be on the hook to pay for their health care later.
