When former Marine Shaun Duling met Bolt, a stray Labrador-shepherd mix, the little fella was skittish and hungry. Duling was doing contract work in Afghanistan with a German military unit, and while the Germans had adopted Bolt's sister as their mascot, the less-outgoing Bolt was mostly ignored.
Rodney Atkins is one of the latest country stars to pack up his bags and head overseas to visit and entertain the U.S. troops, who continue to fight day in and day out to defend our freedom. The singer’s trip to Afghanistan came in the midst of other tour stops in Texas, Chicago, Miami and Orlando and was Atkins’ first time stepping foot on the soil where the fearless soldiers work hard to keep America safe.
While on tour of duty in Afghanistan, soldier Donny Eslinger adopted an adorable dog that he named Smoke-pup Barbarian. But after he was critically wounded during a mortar attack and shipped to Germany, Eslinger was forced to leave the pooch behind.
