On Monday night (June 4), Darius Rucker got fans on their feet to kick off an action-packed week of events as part of the 2012 CMA Music Festival. The singer took over Nashville’s Wildhorse Saloon for his third-annual Darius and Friends concert, benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Legendary singer George Jones was finally released from the hospital after being admitted six days ago, on March 29, for an upper respiratory infection. His publicist, Kirt Webster, said in a public statement that the 80-year-old Jones “wants to thank all his friends and fans for their prayers and well wishes over the past few days.”
Garth Brooks was awarded $1 million in his lawsuit against a hospital in his native Oklahoma. The lawsuit came about to due a dispute over a donation in exchange for naming a wing of the facility after his late mother. Even though Brooks likely doesn’t need the money as one of the most successful country stars ever, it was a matter of principle for him — and the jury agreed. The $1 million includes his original donation, plus punitive damages, according to Reuters.
Merle Haggard attempted to go home to Northern California last week, following treatment for double pneumonia. However, he returned to the hospital partway through the bus ride, realizing something still wasn’t right.
