On Thursday, April 5, nearly 600 elementary students at East Tennessee’s Doak Elementary School got a surprise meet and greet with award-winning sibling trio the Band Perry. Though the students didn’t expect the visit from the ‘All Your Life’ singers, they certainly deserved it. The elementary school, which the Perrys attended when they were young, had just raised more than $40,000 for the American Cancer Society.
We’ve been reporting on all of the happenings surrounding Lionel Richie‘s country duets album ‘Tuskegee‘ since details of the collaborative effort first arose. The highly awaited 13-track collection of duets with Richie and some of the biggest names in country finally dropped March 26. This week, the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart. According to the Tennessean, the project sold 198,892 copies, which also landed Richie at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top 200 trailing only Madonna.
This week, country stars Justin Moore and Miranda Lambert tweeted their disapproval for Ashton Kutcher’s dress and performance at last weekend’s ACM Awards. And while Lambert primarily mentioned that she thought Kutcher may have been poking fun rather than coming at the country genre in sincerity, Moore was quite a bit more candid with his thoughts, ending with, “I don’t care for people making a mockery of the way country artists’ dress.”
Blake Shelton may have done some pretty significant Taylor Swiftteasing from the stage of the ACM Awards last Sunday (April 1), but the comedic star says that, even though the blonde starlet beat him out for Entertainer of the Year, he knows her prize was well deserved given all that she’s done in the past year.
Legendary singer George Jones was finally released from the hospital after being admitted six days ago, on March 29, for an upper respiratory infection. His publicist, Kirt Webster, said in a public statement that the 80-year-old Jones “wants to thank all his friends and fans for their prayers and well wishes over the past few days.”
If there’s one country gal who’s not going to stand quietly while someone makes fun of her or her people, it’s Miranda Lambert. The sassy sweetheart didn’t seem to think Ashton Kutcher’s little “performance,” nor his over-the-top country getup at Sunday night’s ACM Awards was too cute.
If your name is Taylor Swift, then one thing you’re never going to be free from (or, at least until marriage) are dating rumors. It seems Swift’s fanbase and the media alike would love to see the country starlet with a beau. And while others have to announce their romances by becoming Facebook official or tweeting a sweet nothing, all Miss Swift has to do is look someone in the eyes or share a meal with a guy (and his agent) and — bam — love is in the air.
With only a day until the 47th Annual ACM Awards, the country world is descending upon Las Vegas. Fans are getting ready to be entertained for the weekend; country stars are getting settled and fitted for their awards night attire; and superstar Blake Shelton is getting ready (physically and mentally) for his second year as an ACM co-host with Reba McEntire. Though this is McEntire’s 14th consecutive year and she could do this show in her sleep, Shelton, who will be performing as well, admitted to some nerves.
It’s the moment nobody in the world hopes for — the moment when Justin Bieber gives you a hug and says, “Guess what? You just got ‘Punk’d.’” That was the reality for Taylor Swift recently, after the sweet songstress thought she’d set off a firework that caught a boat on fire, ruining a wedding taking place on said boat and causing the bride and groom to dive into the ocean to swim for their lives. Yeah, it was a pretty cruel one, and it all started when the Biebs chose Swift as his target for the second life of the MTV show.
Nashville’s Belmont University can boast quite a number of now-famous alums in the country music world, including Brad Paisley, Josh Turner, LeAnn Womack, Trisha Yearwood, Julie Roberts and Sarah Buxton for starters. And since the university is the place where so many of these artists got a start in music, they don’t often forget to go back and thank their alma mater when that music career finally pays off.
Miranda Lambert and Chris Young sat down at the table with the ladies of CBS’ ‘The Talk’ on Thursday morning, and Lambert decided to offer up a little nugget of trivia about the 26-year-old country crooner joining her on the show. “I have a secret that I know,” she began, pausing. “About him — but you’re not going to expect what I’m about to say.”
Even before she wrote the lead single and another cut for ‘The Hunger Games’ soundtrack, Taylor Swift was already a huge fan of the books. The starlet said in a recent interview, “I fell in love with the book, fell in love with the themes running through it, fell in love with Katniss (the lead protagonist in the story).” So we’re guessing she was pretty ecstatic about receiving a copy of the book with a personal message scrawled in it from none other than author Suzanne Collins.
