Hot Rod Thompson, Townsquare Media Billings[/caption]We've all been there. In a job that is so hard, we don't think we'll make it.

I've done radio since I was 15. However, about six years ago I decided I had had enough, got my Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and hit the road driving truck. I was told by a few trucker friends of mine about the money I would make and how awesome it would be, so I did it.

Seeing the country was incredible. I went to places I would not have otherwise been able to go to. Some of the receivers I dwelt with, not so much.

I felt like I was actually making a difference. Getting things from one end of the country to people on the other end. I was making a bad difference in my family life though. My wife and kids missed me like crazy and I missed them even more.

The company I signed on with took care of me. I had a brand new truck and trailer and the pay wasn't too bad either, but I would only get home every few weeks, which is good considering, and be home for only one day at a time. Missing my youngest son's first birthday did it for me though.

There was so much I loved about the job, but so much I hated. I lasted four years before I came back to radio and am so thankful to be here.

Without trucking, this country would fall flat in a second. I know that for a fact. My hat is off to all drivers on the road today. With fuel costs, new rules all the time and the loneliness that comes along with this job, I respect you for sacrificing for the rest of us.

God bless you.
