Buc-ee’s is expanding, and the big question for us here in Montana is simple. With Buc-ee’s expanding even more, could one ever make its way to Big Sky Country?

Why Buc-ee’s Has a Cult Following

Buc-ee’s is famous for going big. Really big. Some locations have more than 100 gas pumps, massive parking lots, and convenience stores the size of a small grocery store. The company currently operates around 69 locations nationwide and holds the record for the world’s largest convenience store, which is in Luling, Texas.

They are open 24 hours a day, every single day of the year. No locked doors. No closed bathrooms. No tiny aisles where you awkwardly shuffle past strangers holding beef jerky.

Spotless Restrooms Set Buc-ee’s Apart

This might sound strange, but Buc-ee’s bathrooms are part of the obsession. They are consistently praised as some of the cleanest public restrooms in the country. Floor-to-ceiling stalls, spotless floors, and actual privacy. For anyone who has spent hours driving across Montana, you already know how big a deal this is.

Fresh Food and Famous Snacks

Buc-ee’s is not a grab-a-candy-bar-and-go situation. The chain is known for its fresh BBQ, especially the brisket sandwiches, which fans argue over like a sports rivalry. There is also homemade fudge, fresh kolaches, candied nuts, beef jerky walls, and more snacks than you could possibly justify buying in one visit.

It is the kind of place where you walk in for gas and leave with lunch, dessert, and snacks for the next three hours of driving.

Buc-ee’s Merchandise: A Cult Following

Another reason people love Buc-ee’s is the merch. The beaver logo is everywhere. Shirts, hoodies, hats, mugs, blankets, and even baby clothes. Fans proudly wear Buc-ee’s gear like they just visited a theme park. Some of that merch is even sold at Walmart now, which says a lot about how strong the brand following has become.

Buc-ee’s Expansion and Montana’s Hopes

Buc-ee’s has announced plans to open its first-ever locations in eight new states. Those states are Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Opening dates stretch from 2026 into 2027, with massive locations planned, including one in Florida that will be over 76,000 square feet.

With Buc-ee’s moving steadily north and west, the hope among Montana travelers is growing stronger. Each new state announcement brings the possibility a little closer to home.

Nebraska and Wisconsin getting Buc-ee’s definitely caught the attention of folks in Montana. It means the brand is creeping closer to the northern part of the country, even if we are not on the list yet.

Will Montana Get a Buc-ee’s?

Right now, there is no official word, and no Montana locations have been announced. Buc-ee’s tends to focus on major interstate corridors with extremely high traffic volume, which is likely why states like Texas, Florida, and now Ohio and Wisconsin are getting the nod first.

That said, Montana road trips are legendary. Long stretches of highway, heavy summer travel, and tourists pouring in from all directions feel like a match made in Buc-ee’s heaven. Imagine one along I-90 where families, truckers, and travelers could all stop in one place for fuel, food, and a clean break.

Montana’s Road Trip Culture and Buc-ee’s Appeal

Let’s be honest, we love a good road stop. We appreciate quality, efficiency, and places that make travel easier. Buc-ee’s checks all of those boxes and then some. Clean bathrooms. Hot food, wide open space, no rushing, and no sketchy vibes.

If Buc-ee’s ever decided to head our way, it would not just be a gas station. It would be a destination. And judging by how quickly people in other states adopt it, Montanans would be all in. For now, we'll keep watching the expansion map and dreaming about brisket sandwiches, spotless bathrooms, and that smiling beaver welcoming us home from the highway.

Whether Montana is next or not, one thing is clear: if Buc-ee’s ever arrives, it won’t just be another pit stop, it’ll be a road trip revolution for Big Sky Country.
