Cody Johnson Earns Male Video of the Year at the 2022 CMT Music Awards
Congratulations are in order for Cody Johnson, who's bringing home the award for Male Video of the Year after the 2022 CMT Music Awards on Monday night (April 11).
Johnson's video for "'Til You Can't" earned him his second win of the night, following his award for CMT Digital-First Performance of the Year.
The Texas native accepted his trophy onstage at the awards show, which aired live from Nashville. He took a moment to thank the songwriters behind the track, Ben Stennis and Matt Rogers, during his speech.
"I'm very proud to be the person who got this song," Johnson noted. "Thanks to every single fan who voted. Long live country music!"
Johnson beat out fellow nominees Eric Church (for "Heart on Fire"), Kane Brown (for "One Mississippi"), Luke Bryan (for "Waves"), Luke Combs (for "Forever After All"), Thomas Rhett (for "Country Again") and Walker Hayes (for "Fancy Like").
When it came time to make the video for "'Til You Can't" — Johnson's first-ever No. 1 country radio hit — the singer opted for a powerful, cinematic treatment that put the spotlight on the relationship between a young man and his grandfather. It's the first time that Johnson's been a nominee at the CMT Awards, and he's also up for the most prestigious award of the night: Video of the Year.
The 2022 CMT Music Awards were broadcasted live from Nashville on CBS. This year marked the first time that the awards show has aired on a major network.
