Wes Bentley Joins Ryan Murphy HBO Drama ‘Open’
Up until now we've heard relatively little of 'Glee' and 'American Horror Story' creator Ryan Murphy's buzzworthy new sexuality drama 'Open' beyond its pilot commitment at HBO. That all changes now that 'American Beauty' and 'The Hunger Games' star Wes Bentley has joined in a leading role, and with his casting comes the first major details of the series.
Initially described as a “modern, provocative exploration of human sexuality and relationships” that will be written by ‘Dexter‘ co-executive producer Lauren Gussis, HBO's 'Open' will see Wes Bentley in the role of the "handsome but arrogant" Evan Foster, a blowhard who loves espousing his own theories on human sexuality in all its forms and practice, according to Deadline.
“Gary (Newman), Bert (Salke) and I have been looking for the right opportunity to be in business with HBO for awhile, and this show represents the exact right opportunity,” said 20th Century Fox TV chairman Dana Walden of the pay cable network's pilot commitment order. “Its provocative storytelling and Ryan’s trademark production values and rich, layered characters make it a perfect fit for the HBO brand.”
The casting certainly marks a rare TV role for Bentley, whose only previous TV credit had been a leading role in 'Tilda,' starring opposite Diane Keaton, but that show never made it air. We've got our eye on 'Open,' but what say you? Would you want to see Wes Bentley on TV under Ryan Murphy's leadership?
