Q2 reports that an unidentified man in his sixties was taken into custody after exchanging gunfire with police and holing up for hours in an east Billings residence Tuesday evening. He reportedly fired shots at two Montana Department of Corrections parole officers who knocked on his door on the 1600 block of Second Avenue North just after 4:30 p.m. The officers returned fire, but neither was injured.

The suspect barricaded himself inside the home, and just before 7 p.m., officers fired bean bags to disable surveillance cameras around the house. Using the Bear armored vehicle, they breached the door, shot him with bean bag rounds and deployed a flash diversionary device to disorient him. He was taken to the hospital with abdominal injuries.

Billings Police Chief Rich St. John praised the officers involved for ending the standoff without a fatality.
