Colin Firth Is Selling Himself to Fight Poverty – Who’s Gonna Win?
Don’t worry, it’s not as racy as it sounds — Colin Firth is auctioning himself off as a date for charity. The Oscar-winning star of ‘The King’s Speech’ is attempting to raise money by selling a chance to meet him on the red carpet and accompany him to an after party.
Not only is Firth a dashing Academy Award winner, he’s also a philanthropist and has teamed up with Oxfam America, an organization dedicated to ending poverty. The winner of Firth’s auction, and a friend, will meet the star at the premiere of his new movie ‘Tinker, Tailor, Solder, Spy’ on December 6, and then be taken by limo to the after party at Chateau Marmont.
Firth hopes his guests won’t be nervous when they meet him, but knows from his own experience that they might be. He said, “Ever so often, I will meet someone who I greatly admire and get truly dumbstruck. If I’m a big fan of somebody, I prefer to keep at a safe distance because I don’t know what I will do.”
