Dan + Shay Join the Jonas Brothers for ‘Tequila’ in Nashville
There's no doubt about it — the Jonas Brothers fans are also Dan + Shay fans.
The country duo were surprise guests during the pop trio's show at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Tuesday night (Sept. 10), and they sang their crossover hit "Tequila" for an audience that seemed to know every word. In fact, the crowd may have known the lyrics better than Nick, Joe and Kevin!
A lyrical stumble at the beginning of the second verse didn't seem to slow momentum, however. Shay Mooney's bridge became a massive audience singalong, and the five dark-haired fellas flashed smiles at each other before a round of bro hugs and high fives for a job well done.
The country duo and sibling pop trio have a history together. During the 2015 ACM Awards, Nick Jonas joined Dan Smyers and Mooney to sing a pair of songs. Then last May, after the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, Dan + Shay agreed to sing their song "Speechless" for Joe Jonas and his wife Sophie as she walked down the aisle to get married. The private performance soon became big news, with Dan + Shay admitting they didn't realize it was the actual ceremony at first.
There was another country cameo during the Bridgestone Arena show. The Tennessean reports that Kelsea Ballerini joined opening act Bebe Rexha to sing "Meant to Be." Ballerini just released her song "Homecoming Queen?" to radio this week.
