FOX’s ‘Gotham’ TV Series: Donal Logue Confirmed as DC Detective Harvey Bullock
Well, this isn't much of a surprise. Following the news that Fox's Batman-prequel TV series 'Gotham' had cast Alfred, The Penguin, and others atop Ben McKenzie in the leading role of Detective James Gordon, 'Sons of Anarchy' and 'Vikings' vet Donal Logue has officially been confirmed for the DC role of gruff detective Harvey Bullock.
Logue had previously been associated with the project when Latino Review broke the story that the 'Terriers' star had been eyed for the role of Jim Gordon, though Logue himself quickly corrected that the role would be cast much, much younger. The news had then been adjusted to reflect that Logue might portray detective Harvey Bullock, employed in 'Gotham' as a mentor figure to Jim Gordon, which now appears to be the case.
According to producers, Logue's Harvey Bullock will appear as Gordon’s partner and mentor, who plays loose with police procedure, but gets results — and does it with old-school, forceful panache. Logue will next be seen as a series regular in History's 'Vikings' season 2 (premiering February 27), for which the actor was forced to bow out as the villain of 'Sons of Anarchy' season 6.
‘Gotham’ will explore “the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham famous,” with its pilot supposedly featuring Gordon’s investigation of the murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne. The pilot will also be written and executive produced by ‘The Mentalist”s Bruno Heller, along with Warner Bros. Television, and directed by ‘Judge Dredd’ helmer Danny Cannon. It has been confirmed that ‘Gotham’ will not have any direct ties to Ben Affleck‘s take on the Dark Knight for 'Man of Steel' follow-up film ‘Batman vs. Superman‘ or The CW’s ‘Arrow' series.
Cast in known roles thus far are Ben McKenzie as James Gordon, Robin Lord Taylor ('The Walking Dead') as a young Oswald Cobblepot, Sean Pertwee ('Elementary') as Alfred Pennyworth, 'Burn Notice' star Zabryna Guevara as Gordon's GCPD boss Captain Essen, and Erin Richards as Gordon's fiancée Barbara Kean. Yet to be cast is the role of a young Bruce Wayne, who will be featured throughout the series, and supposedly don the cape and cowl in the final installment of FOX's new 'Gotham' series.
Not unexpected, but what do you think? Is Donal Logue a good choice for Detective Harvey Bullock after all, or would you have wanted to see the series go a different way? Give us your 'Gotham' thoughts in the comments!
