‘How I Met Your Dad’ Cast: ‘Smash’ Star Krysta Rodriguez Joins the ‘HIMYM’ Spinoff
'How I Met Your Mother' may or may not have introduced a major curveball into its narrative with this past week's episode "Vesuvius," but its sequel spinoff series 'How I Met Your Dad' is just getting warmed up. Third to join the regular cast alongside indie darling Greta Gerwig and newcomer Drew Tarver is former 'Smash' star Krysta Rodriguez, but which of the new gang's roles will she take?
Via Deadline, former Broadway star Rodriguez will take the role of Sally's (Gerwig's) best friend Juliet, a sexy, flamboyant force of nature who runs the most successful fashion blog in the country. We previously heard Eliza Dushku might read for a role in the pilot, speculated to be that of Juliet, though there's still one remaining female regular role up for grabs.
Apart from Gerwig, Tarver and Rodriguez, the still uncast roles of the spinoff include the narrating future Sally, Sally’s older gay brother Danny, and Juliet’s coworker Frank, who harbors a one-sided crush on Sally. Also worth noting is that where first it was thought that we’d meet at least some of the new cast in the final episodes of ‘How I Met Your Mother,’ ‘How I Met Your Dad’ will in fact film its own pilot independent of any of the established characters. 'Up All Night' creator Emily Spivey will head up the show creatively with 'HIMYM' producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, with Gerwig likely taking on writing duties, as well.
Well, what do you think? Does Krysta Rodriguez make the concept of 'How I Met Your Dad' any more palatable? Who would you like to see join the potential 'How I Met Your Mother' spinoff, to replace the likes of Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan, Josh Radnor and Neil Patrick Harris?
