It's borderline scary how much information ends up on the web these days.

If you don't believe me, try googling your name or address.

I was shocked at how much of my personal information was floating around the internet.

But you might wonder why blurring images of your home on Google is such a big deal.

Why You Should Blur Images Of Your Home On Google?

Many people have taken to Google to start blurring out images of their homes.

Generally, these images end up on Google from real estate listings.

The idea behind blurring out images of your home on Google is that burglars or potential thieves will not know its layout.

The thought process is that this will prevent them from breaking into your home.

However, some experts say blurring out images of your home on Google might be a bad idea.

Why You Shouldn't Blur Images Of Your Home On Google?

I found this article from ABC News, and the expert they chatted with said blurring out images of your home on Google might trigger thieves.

They claimed that blurring out images may make thieves more suspicious of your property.

You can check that article out here.

Personally, I'm more of a fan of blurring out images than not, but to each their own.

How to Blur Your Home on Google Maps

  1. Access Street View Mode: Go to the Google Maps website and enter Street View mode for your address. The option to request a blur is not available on the mobile app.
  2. Report a Problem: In Street View mode, click on the drop-down menu in the top-left corner of the screen and select "Report a Problem."
  3. Complete the Questionnaire: You will be presented with a questionnaire asking for details about why and where you want the image to be blurred.
  4. Submit Your Request: After filling out the form, submit it. Google Maps may contact you for additional information if needed.
