If you live in Billings, you may have noticed or heard about the significant law enforcement presence at the Colonial Apartments today. There’s now a clear reason behind it.

Officers from the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office, the Billings Police Department, and the Montana Department of Corrections Probation and Parole worked together to remove the last occupants from the building as part of a coordinated effort to address long-standing concerns about the property.

Securing The Property Moving Forward

Once the final residents had left, crews quickly secured the building. A fence now surrounds the Colonial Apartments to protect public safety and prevent anyone from entering the property as demolition plans move forward.

A Property With A Complicated History

For years, the Colonial Apartments have been associated with repeated criminal activity and violent incidents, something many Billings residents are well aware of. That history explains the strong law enforcement presence during the operation, which was focused on keeping everyone involved safe.

Officials have also made it clear that until demolition is complete, the property is strictly off-limits. Anyone caught trespassing there could face arrest and be taken directly to the Yellowstone County Detention Facility.
