Can You Guess How Many Bricks Are In The Billings DoubleTree?
One Big Brick Tower
After over a year of working at the tippy-top of the DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton (lovingly known on air as the Townsquare Tower), I can tell you the view is one of the best in Montana.
We're up on the 23rd Floor (technically 22, since 13 is skipped) overlooking the entire city, and really do have a birds-eye view of everything happening in Downtown Billings.
Opened in 1980
The Sheraton Billings Hotel, as it was dubbed back in 1980 at completion, is the second-tallest building in the "Northern Rocky Mountain region", and was indeed the tallest for a short time... 1980 through 1985... until the First Interstate Center was completed.
Somehow, even though basic road construction takes years to finish here in Montana, this hotel was built brick-by-brick in just around 1 year. An impressive feat, when you consider just how many bricks are actually in the mix!
So... How Many Bricks Are In The Building?
Well, before I tell you the number, you need to know that the building isn't just bricks sitting on one another. It's a combination of a concrete slurry, with grout poured into the brick holes to make the hotel that much stronger.
In fact, the hotel was designed to survive extremely high winds and earthquakes... both of which it has handled in stride since 1980.
So, here's the answer. The DoubleTree by Hilton contains...
2,372,982 Bricks
Now THAT is a lot of building blocks! Not too shabby for the tallest hotel in the state.
