Montana has been a big player in dealing with tech companies recently. Montana was the first state to try and ban TikTok. That decision has created massive waves even though it doesn't go into effect until 2024, and it's pending a court case.

Montanans are notoriously known for not putting up with riff-raff or ridiculous ideas, and a new one will make locals' eyes roll.

KBZK reports that Elon Musk, owner of companies like Tesla, SpaceX, and X(formerly Twitter), announced an idea that will immediately backfire. Elon Musk wants to start charging users a monthly fee. X already charges folks for a Premium service, but Musk thinks charging a small monthly fee is doable.

Elon Musk has had a lot of problems since buying Twitter. One of the main issues is losing millions of dollars in ad revenue. This idea seems like something that could help recoup that money.

Musk will learn people don't want to pay for a social media site. When there are sites like Instagram, Facebook, and the newly formed Threads, paying for social media access is a terrible idea.

Many Montanans struggle to pay for housing, food, and utilities with the high cost of living and usually share streaming services with friends or family. If Elon wants Montanans to pay to use a social media site, he is out of his mind.

If this goes into effect, we can only imagine a massive exodus of users from X and flooding other sites instantly. There is no word yet on when this plan might come to fruition, but people are already voicing their disapproval.
