"As soon as the existing inventory is shipped, we will no longer be producing our lefse." But all hope is not yet lost...

Wow. I was driving back from Great Falls on the way through Glacier National Park when I stopped for gas and checked my messages. Clay sent us a message on our Montana Talks app:

Aaron: Looked at Granrud's Lefse web site now; note it's "FOR SALE" & closing when current inventory sold out (if not purchased). FYI.
Ole Clay

As Clay suggested I checked the Granrud's website and yes, they are for sale. And once their inventory is shipped, they will shut down their Lefse shop in Scobey, Montana.

Some of you may be reading this and are asking- what is lefse? (Pronounced leff-suh)

Here's a story I wrote about Granrud's back in 2021: A Must-Visit for a Montana Scandinavian

Some of my favorite memories as a kid on Montana's Hi Line were sitting around the table with my Great Grandma Nellie (whose family homesteaded near Opheim) and my Grandma Joan, playing Whist, and eating Lefse.

That's right, if you're Scandinavian, and you live in Montana- chances are, you grew up eating lefse.

Lefse looks kind of like a tortilla, but it is thinner and made of potatoes. I like it with butter and sugar, but some people will add cinnamon or even make a sandwich out of it.
