Taylor Swift to Perform New Song Live at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards
Ever since Taylor Swift‘s new single ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together‘ hit the airwaves, copies the song have been flying off the digital shelves. So, it’s no surprise that the blended pop-country star was sought out to perform a new song from ‘Red’ at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.
Swift’s appearance at the VMAs will mark the song’s live debut, though it’s not clear if it will be in addition to her current single. The award-winning country star will be joined by Green Day, Pink, Alicia Keys and One Direction for this year’s event, which will be hosted by Kevin Hart. Always up for a good funny clip, Swift joined Hart for a short promo video to advertise the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.
In the commercial, Swift is seen in the green room picking around on her guitar and practicing her song for the awards show. Suddenly, Kevin Hart busts through the door and accuses her of writing ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ about him.
“I met you like one time two years ago…for like five minutes,” Swift says dismissively. Hart then presents her with a badly-doctored picture of himself walking arm in arm with the popular country star.
“Would I have this if I met you one time two years ago?” he asks with an attitude, showing her the image of his head pasted over Jake Gyllenhaal’s body.
“That’s your face photoshopped on someone else’s body,” Swift responds. “That’s not even good photoshop.”
While no one really knows which mystery man Swift is singing about in the powerful new breakup anthem, the speculation is half the fun. ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ is the lead single off of Swift’s upcoming album, ‘Red,’ which will hit store shelves and digital retailers on October 22. It sounds like most of the album has been influenced by the painful breakups Swift has experienced in the last few years, among other happenings in the 22-year-old’s life.
“When I was coming up with the name for this album, it seemed crazy because it was really simple,” Swift explains. “I wrote a song called ‘Red,’ and thinking about what that song means to me and all the different emotions on this album they’re all pretty much about the tumultuous, crazy, insane, intense, semi-toxic relationships I’ve experienced in the last two years and all those emotions fanning from intense love, intense frustration, intense jealousy, confusion, all of that in my mind, all those emotions are red. There’s nothing in between, there’s nothing beige about those feelings and so I called my record that.”
The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, featuring Taylor Swift, will air live on September 6 at 8PM ET.
