‘The Simpsons’ Go French in Sylvain Chomet-Animated Couch Gag
When last we checked in on 'The Simpsons' famous couch gags, the long-running animated series paid tribute to the animated works of Hayao Miyazaki, before that turning in gags from the likes of Guillermo del Toro, and Peter Jackson. Next up, watch America's favorite cartoon family animated in the style of French 'Triplets of Belleville' creator Sylvain Chomet!
For those unfamiliar with the animation style, which shows 'The Simpsons' in a surreal, almost grotesque characterization, Chomet was responsible both for the Oscar-nominated 'Triblets of Belleville,' as well as 2010's 'The Illusionist.' And since 'The Simpsons' and subtlety go hand in hand these days, Homer sports a pencil-thin mustache as he munches on snails, and Lisa pulls out an accordion. Freddy Quimby, would no doubt approve.
The couch gag will air with this Sunday's "Diggs," followed by "The Man Who Grew Too Much," which also features the return of Kelsey Grammer's Sideshow Bob. Of course, if that weren’t exciting enough for ‘Simpsons’ fans in 2014, there’s also the upcoming character death, the FXX streaming deal, LEGO installment, toys and the always fan-friendly cavalcade of guest stars to lend their voices over the coming year.
