Dolly Parton Shines in All-Star Tribute to Her at 2019 Grammy Awards
Some of the biggest stars from across musical genres joined together to pay tribute to Dolly Parton at the 2019 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, Calif., on Sunday night (Feb. 10).
Kacey Musgraves, Maren Morris, Little Big Town and Katy Perry teamed for a musical tribute to the country icon that saw them trading off songs from her decades-long catalog of hits.
Musgraves and Perry kicked it off, performing the legend's "Here You Come Again" before Parton herself joined the duo on stage, donning a lace, white gown. Both Perry and Musgraves wore red Southern-influenced jumpsuits — the pair honored Parton at the 2019 MusiCares Person of the Year event, as well.
Cyrus shimmered in a gold pantsuit, joining her Godmother Parton onstage for a duet of the classic "Jolene." She thanked her "Aunt Dolly" after the performance, but neither of them were done.
Morris joined the pair to sing "After the Gold Rush," and the three seamlessly harmonized, like they've been performing together their whole lives. The last verse was done completely a capella as a mostly silent audience swayed their arms along to the rhythm.
Little Big Town had the honor of performing Parton's new song
"Red Shoes" from her Dumplin' soundtrack. Jimi Westbrook even put on a Dolly Parton T-shirt for the occasion. All of the performers came center-stage to perform "9 to 5," with the entire crowd singing along.
Parton was named the 2019 MusiCares Person of the Year, and a number of stars from across generations and genres gathered in Los Angeles on Friday night (Feb. 8) to celebrate her charity work with a series of musical tributes, including Pink, Vince Gill and Don Henley, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, Jennifer Nettles, Margo Price, Cam, Mavis Staples, Leon Bridges, Jon Batiste, Norah Jones, Chris Stapleton, Lauren Daigle, Willie Nelson, Brandi Carlile, Musgraves and Perry.
This was the 73-year-old country icon's first Grammys performance since 2001. Her new Netflix film Dumplin' features a variety of Parton's classic songs, as well as new duets on some of her classics.
