Are The Oscar Nominators Watching The Same Movies The Rest Of Us Watch?
Does it seem like every year when they announce the Oscar nominations they aren't the same movies most people go to Carmike Cinemas to watch? For instance here is a list of the current top 10 movies: A Good Day To Die Hard, Identity Thief, Safe Haven, Escape From Planet Earth, Warm Bodies, Beautiful Creatures, Side Effects, Silver Linings Playbook, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and Zero Dark Thirty. No where on that list is "Django Unchained" which I might mention is playing at only one Carmike location. Yet Django Unchained has 4 Ocsar nominations. Now, it might be the best movie every made but as they say, if a tree falls in the forest and no one heard it then did it make a sound? I hope Lincoln wins for that very reason. I'm guessing people who drink with their pinky out voted for Django because the poster boy for the "I'm way cooler than you because I've heard of stuff you haven't crowd", Quentin Tarantino (pictured above) is the Director. No, I suppose it's not a popularity contest but it would be nice if the winner of Best Picture were a movie more than just the artsy fartsy elite have gone to see. Back to my grilled cheese and VHS video of "Greatest Hockey Fights Ever"!
