If you stayed up until midnight last night you were treated to a full lunar eclipse or "Blood Moon". When the Earth blocks out the light from the sun only light from our planet can reflect off of the lunar surface which takes on a red hue. My friend Sharon took the pic above and while a spectacular shot it wasn't as red as other shots I've seen which, to be honest, I suspect have been "enhanced" in Photoshop or with other photo editing software. The next blood moon isn't expected to be visible in North America until 2019. You'll notice Mars on the right hand edge of the frame which makes this shot even more rare.
