Recently, the governor's office was briefed on what experts believe the fire season will look like this year.
Initially, the outlook looked pretty grim; however, recent rains have greatly benefited much of the Treasure State.
According to the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) and Northern Rockies Coordinating Group (NRCG), a slow ramp-up to the fire season is anticipated, thanks largely to the recent rain.
Although conditions are expected to begin drying out at our doorstep, fire management officials expect a normal fire season.
Remember that this does not mean we won't have major fires or significant acreage burned during the summer months.
“The state of Montana stands unified and ready this fire season,” Gov. Gianforte said. “It’s important to remember we all have a responsibility to prevent human-caused wildfires. While we cannot control the weather, we can control our actions in order to prevent human-caused fires from occurring in the first place.”
