Yellowstone County DUI Stop Leads To Child Endangerment Charge
If you drove past a few extra patrol cars around Billings last week, you weren't imagining things. The Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office released its weekly activity report for August 10 through August 16, and deputies had a full plate: 547 calls for service, 23 arrests and 300 case reports written in seven days.
That number swings up and down depending on the week, but this one leaned heavily on impaired driving and domestic violence calls, with a stolen vehicle recovery and a handful of warrant sweeps mixed in. Here's a closer look at what deputies were dealing with, based on the full arrest log released by the Sheriff's Office.
Billings Area DUI Arrests Included a Child Endangerment Charge
Four of the week's arrests came out of driving under the influence stops. The one that stands out involved 25-year-old Kolton Bishop, arrested August 14 and facing criminal child endangerment tied to a DUI, along with driving on a revoked or suspended license, a third-offense DUI charge and operating without liability insurance. A separate DUI stop on August 14 led to a notice to appear for 41-year-old Jeremiah Stewart, and 45-year-old Richard Lanham was cited on August 16 for a second-offense DUI.
Yellowstone County Domestic Violence Calls Led to Two Arrests
Deputies responded to two partner and family member assault cases over the weekend. On August 16, 42-year-old Kie Christensen was taken into custody on a partner or family member assault charge with no weapon involved, and 19-year-old Jayceon Morning was arrested the same day on a charge of causing reasonable apprehension of bodily injury against a partner or family member.
Motor Vehicle Theft Case Near Billings Ended in Multiple Charges
A single incident on August 14 landed 45-year-old Jeffrey Carlisle in custody on three separate charges: unauthorized control over property tied to motor vehicle theft, obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest. In a separate case, deputies recovered a stolen vehicle on August 12, leading to a charge against 37-year-old Brittany Thomas for unauthorized control over property.
Yellowstone County Drug Possession Arrests Included Two Cases
Deputies made two drug-related arrests during the week. On August 10, 47-year-old Whisper Anderson received a notice to appear for criminal possession of dangerous drugs, criminal possession of drug paraphernalia, and displaying license plates assigned to another vehicle. On August 11, 65-year-old Edward Becktold was taken into custody on criminal possession of dangerous drugs and criminal possession of drug paraphernalia.
Billings Deputies Handled Two Protection Order Violations
Two people were arrested for violating existing protection orders. On August 13, 58-year-old Gordon Boese was arrested for violating a protection order, first offense. Two days later, on August 15, 45-year-old Kevin Kirchner was arrested for violating a no-contact order. In a related case, authorities took 51-year-old Cameron Goni into custody on August 11 for felony contempt of court tied to a temporary restraining order, along with a separate county warrant.
Disorderly Conduct and Trespassing Rounded Out the Charges
On August 15, 33-year-old Mackenzie Shores was arrested on disorderly conduct for loud noise, along with obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest. Separately, 52-year-old Darrick Nez was arrested that same day for criminal trespass to property.
Warrant Arrests and Contempt of Court Charges Rounded Out the Week
A significant share of the week's arrests came from outstanding warrants and contempt of court charges rather than new incidents, a reminder that a good chunk of what deputies handle day to day is following up on cases already working their way through the system. Here's who was taken into custody:
- Breanna Shannon, 29, contempt of court
- Elliott Hardy, 41, contempt of court and a city warrant
- Demetrius Jefferson, 46, contempt of court
- Jeanie Yellowrobe, 66, contempt of court
- James Turner, 63, contempt of court
- Cameron Goni, 51, felony contempt of court tied to a temporary restraining order and a county warrant
- Justin Azure, 43, county warrant and contempt of court
- Whitn'e Burns, 22, city warrant
- Cody Baisch, 56, warrant from another jurisdiction
- Krista Littlehead, 41, warrant service
The Sheriff's Office releases these activity reports weekly, and I'll keep bringing you the numbers along with the stories behind them.
