The Most Ridiculous Promises Made By Politicians in Montana

Ah, the age old political habit of making big promises when a candidate is running for office. It happens everywhere, including Montana. Many of Montana's races are important on a national level, so the political promises are getting bigger.

Making promises is one thing. The frustrating part is that NO politician has been clear and concise about HOW THEY WOULD address an issue. People can say anything they want, but explaining how to solve a problem is a different matter.

No matter what your political beliefs and feelings are, the most important thing we can all do is VOTE.

Political promises are made on BOTH side of the aisle, by democrats and republicans. The quotes below include those made by candidates on both sides, and for all sorts of seats.

NOTE: Since we all know these large promises are made, I did not put down the politician's name next to the claim. You'll just have to trust me that all of these quotes were taken directly from this pile of political mailers.

"(this Montana candidate) will address Montana's teacher shortage." HOW are you going to do that? Montana's rural communities have been struggling for YEARS to fill teaching positions.

"(this Montana politician) fully funds law enforcement." Sort of a misleading claim, as most law enforcement is significantly funded on a local level by local voters.

"(this Montana candidate) supports the Montana Constitution." I'm fairly certain that saying the Montana Constitution is trash isn't a great way to get elected.

"(this Montana candidate) wants an economy that works for ALL of Montana's families." Well, that's quite frankly never going to happen. The nature of our entire economy is structured to be somewhat unbalanced. That's an insanely broad wish - but at least it's phrased as a 'want'.

"(this Montana politician) introduced legislation to keep Flathead Lake full all summer." Although this is a true statement about introduced legislation, the demand to keep Flathead full during a massive drought has severe consequences on Hungry Horse Reservoir. It's basically picking one pocket to fill another - pockets of water, anyway. Pray for snow...that's the actual solution, not legislation.

"(this Montana politician) will unleash American energy." Another big, blanket promise. One state politician can't do that alone. It takes consensus among politicians AND voters 99% of the time.

"(this voter) can count of him to protect our privacy." In a limited capacity, this might be an acceptable belief about many candidates. However, when used as a blanket statement, it's a useless statement. Candidates don't have any control over privacy breaches - which affect our personal data, health data, financial data, etc.

"(this Montana candidate) will protect our clean air and water, public land access, and Montana's $7 billion outdoor economy." A bold statement, but again - HOW will this person protect our clean air and water?
