Montana Man Survived 5 Days on Creek Water
Montana Tough. That's what Zachary Demoss and his family, friends are.
This young man wrecked his motorcycle in the high country of Idaho, busting up his body, yet withstood five painful days and nights until rescued.
Zachary's ordeal began August 11th on a ride with two friends along mountain highway 12. The party separated and lost track of each other. The friends rode on to the next stop and waited for him. He didn't return that night and didn't answer his phone. Another friend came with a truck and the search was on.
Demoss was still in the wilderness after an accident that had taken him off the road and broken several bones. He sustained himself with water at a creek. For days, while family and friends assisted Search and Rescue, and his cellular company monitoring his phone number for contact, Zachery hollered for help while other folks couldn't hear him and passed on by.
After four days of covering the countryside along nearly a hundred miles by foot and helicopter, the sheriff's department scaled back their efforts while those close to him pressed on the hunt.
Zach hung on.
Maybe it was Providence that on day 5, family friend Greg Common wandered into the area. Quoting Common from the Associated Press, "It was surreal that we found him. Something just willed me to look right and there he was, laying right there by the river."
Zachary Demoss is recovering from the broken bones, a collapsed lung and other injuries. His GoFundMe page to cover medical costs has a goal of $100,000 and has raised over $15,000. Your support for Zach and his family will be appreciated.
