Lauren Alaina may have given her dad the best Father’s Day gift ever this weekend. The former ‘American Idol’ contestant called him on stage to accompany her on the guitar as she sang a few songs. The real gift — for concert attendees and Alaina’s father — was their father/daughter rendition of ‘When You Say Nothing at All.’

Wake up. Sound the alarms. Father’s Day is on Sunday. It seems like we talk about Mother’s Day for a month before it actually happens, but Father’s Day just sneaks up on us every year. If this has happened to you and you aren’t prepared with a gift, it’s not too late.

Sure, your dad said he didn’t want anything for Fathers’ Day, but that might also have been a not-so-subtle hint that thanks to the last several holidays, he has enough ties and golf balls.

So the first Monday of October is here, and it was today in 1960 that TV's "Andy Griffith Show" premiered.  Solving problems, sharing advice and smiling at the camera, TV sitcom dads are the idealized vision of what many American guys want to be - or wished they were.
