The forecast just got worse for Yellowstone County. The National Weather Service is now predicting Billings could get 8 to 12 inches of snow accumulation by Thursday (10/10).

As the rain rapidly turns to snow tonight, a Winter Storm Warning will go into effect at 12am MDT Wednesday morning (10/9), and continue until 12noon MDT on Thursday (10/10).

Icy roads and heavy snow are expected on the Wednesday morning commute, with the potential for 18 inches of snow in Red Lodge, and up to 2 feet of snow accumulation possible in Nye.

The National Weather Services warns travelers of the following impacts from this storm:

Travel and outdoor activities will be very difficult. Rural travel may be impossible in some locations. Tree and power line damage is likely and may result in power outages. Those with hunting or recreation interests should prepare accordingly.

The Beartooth Pass is now officially closed for the season on the Montana side, according to a Montana Department of Transportation press release.

MDT initially planned to shut down the Pass on Columbus Day weekend, but heavy snow forced US 212 to close today. Beartooth Pass is scheduled to reopen by Memorial Day weekend of 2020.
